      is a Performance Art Phenomenon

and the Lover of Low Creatures

the background image is a dance still of two Black Disabled dancers onstage, one a wheelchair user, the other Deaf, one femme, the other masculine. The femme dancer is wearing a heavenly and Grecian looking crown and a white dress and gold leggings. Their right leg is aloft as their lean back in their wheelchair, touching the extended left leg of the masculine dancer, who has long dreadlocks and is dancing from the floor in matching white top and gold bike shorts. The backdrop of their dance is a deep red umber.

NEVE (they/he/she) is a Nubian American enchantrexx of queer joy and consequences, creating and producing in the realms of dance, musical theatre, and experimental film, and casting spells in Duwamish (Seattle) and other Unceded Coast Salish Territories, and being of other rivers- the Raritan, the Mississippi, the Nile. He is a Levar Burton, Reading, Rainbow Lover. Great Great Grandchild of the Author of The Velveteen Rabbit. She is a river fairy and a merqueer and a chip of hard sap shimmering down to the bottom. They are a 2020 Pina Bausch Fellow, and one of the first two Americans to receive the award. They are an international award-winning actor and filmmaker. He likes to drink wine, coffee, tears, and sink into the dance. She is not afraid to rescue you from the sunken place or assist you in seeing her more clearly. They believe in God, Liberation, Land Back, Right of Return, Reparations, and the Loch Ness Monster. They are polyamorously gay married, and they talk to animals, but the talking to animals came first and shed light on future relating. Much like that velveteen rabbit, they are magic, mutable, and real.

    • Wanna learn with and from me?

I create and teach a variety of class forms, usually centered around dance, improvisation, and performance. Due to safety precautions around COVID-19, all of my classes are currently being offered online.

Neve lies on their side on a table in a kitchen. Their hair is orange peach flame and long and wavy, with bangs. His dress is midnight blue, and is actually a clever combination of a lace halter bra and a long silk skirt that he lifts up and to the left in a flourish. Neve's skin is creamy rosy brown and their feet are bare. On the table with him are brightly colored books and flowers.
Open Level Improvisation for Lovers Alone
Mondays through the end of December 2020
      12 PM-1:30 PM PST

This will be a lesson in falling in love with our bodies and our domestic spaces again, or for the first time. We will explore multicultural improvisational techniques that I have come upon throughout my 12 years of practicing solo improvisation, group improvisation, and contact improvisation. As we are sheltering in place so to speak, we have the opportunity to more deeply invest in site-specific physical and performative exploration in the places we think we know so well. Will you be surprised? Absolutely. Will you be shocked? I don’t know, but that would be fun. Let’s have a fun, weird, beautiful, heinous, moving, goofy, wild, profound time with our bodies and the places we call HERE, NOW.
